Abstract

Spontaneous coronary dissection (SCAD) accounts for 25% of ACS in females <50 years of age. The recurrence rate of SCAD within one to two years is 11%. Currently, there are no universal guidelines for the treatment of SCAD. However, the literature reports higher rates of complications associated with stenting than with medical treatment. Beta-blockers are believed to be protective against SCAD recurrence due to its direct mechanism of action on the vasculature and heart. The following case describes a patient on recommended medical therapy, including a beta-blocker who presented with a dissection of the second diagonal branch.
